While the Mi 11 was the star attraction of today’s event, Xiaomi took the opportunity to report on its progress so far. Last year, the company became the world’s third-largest smartphone maker (helped by Huawei’s demise, of course).

It is now the # 1 brand in 10 markets and in the top 3 in 36 markets. Xiaomi is the fastest growing brand in the premium segment with an impressive 3639% year-on-year growth in Q3 2020 (based on Canalys data for the $ 500 + segment).

Between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the third quarter of 2020, Xiaomi invested $ 1.3 billion in research and development. And it’s paying off – 2,143 camera tests that previously took 3-4 days have been fully automated and now only take a day.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro sat at the top of the DxOMark camera rankings for 48 days, the Mi 10 Ultra was at the top for almost two and a half months. The audio lab is also celebrating its success, the Mi 10 Pro was the top phone in DxO Audio testing for most of 2020.

Xiaomi’s R&D on cameras and audio technology pays off
Xiaomi has even more labs – the ones that help it develop 5G connectivity, screens, improve phone stability and more.
