The VLC Media Player 3.0.18 update focuses on improving the security, stability, format support and compatibility of the app.
VLC users are waiting for the next update and now they can use the media player with its brand new set of improvements. According to Tech Spot, the 19th update includes revamped adaptive streaming support, additional format support, bug crashes, and more.
In addition, VideoLAN also wants to provide solutions when it comes to compatibility problems. As such, the program is now accessible with older GPU models, the startup said.
In addition, the VLC Media Player update implements several bug fixes, including the playlist live loop. The enhancement also rolls out to MKV media files where new support is added to the DVBSub.
The third-party libraries are also included in the update, along with the arrival of FFmpeg, a collection of various open-source projects such as mpg123, libsmb2, libass, dav1d, upnp, and GnuTLS to name a few.
Another problem that VideoLAN has solved is the handling of Blu-ray optical discs in the library. This is one of the most annoying bugs that some users are complaining about in the app.
At this point, you can check if the BD-J menus work perfectly after the update. While there may be some irregularities with the Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, as the first tests conclude, the update brings so much stability to the whole program.

Solutions for VLC security errors
As written in the VLC 3.0.18 security bulletin, VideoLAN provides several fixes for the existing bugs in the app. The update fixes the issue where a denial of service (DOS) occurs when there is an error in the mp4 file.
Another notable fix includes file crashes that happen when Duplicate Free (#26930) appears. Another DOS related problem can occur if there is a null pointer dereference or erroneous eye file.
The issue with a malicious vnc URL (#27335, CVE-2022-41325) is now resolved with the latest update. Previously, remote code execution could easily be triggered when there was a buffer overflow in the vnc module.
VideoLAN should be aware of these vulnerabilities as exploits can completely disrupt the functions of the VLC Media Player.
In April, Tech Times reported that some Chinese hackers had been spotted using the VLC media player as an outlet for malware distribution.
The state-sponsored cybercriminals were caught using the modified malware loader to infect victims’ vulnerable systems and steal their credentials.
