It’s been a while since the OnePlus 8T was released. In fact, we’re only days away from the OnePlus 9 series launch event. Still, DxOMark has taken an in-depth camera review of the OnePlus 8T to see how it stacks up against the competition. The overall score of 111 points puts the device on par with the Google Pixel 4a and the rather old Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

And as expected, the overall camera performance is far from great. Critics even call the phone a “refreshed midranger”. Perhaps because the camera experience is typical of a mid-range handset. The main issues with the phone’s camera are inaccurate color reproduction and noise in almost all shooting scenarios, especially in low light conditions. Dynamic range also needs to be improved while telephoto shots lack detail and produce noise. In addition, videos need better focus in low light conditions as well as adequate noise reduction.
On the other hand, critics praised the precision of the exposure metering and the large depth of field that guarantees a sharp background. The faux bokeh also seems to be there with a precise and convincing effect of depth. Additionally, the videos look really pretty when taken outdoors where focus jitter and noise are not observed.
