The “YS School Cultural Festival 2024” includes the summer and winter edition, offering a host of diverse and enriching experiences to participants. The winter edition started on December 9 at Youth Square, offering a series of exciting programs for young people to share and exchange their passion and ideas about anime, cosplay and idol groups.
One of the highlight events of the winter edition of “YS School Cultural Festival 2024” is “Doujin Fan Fest 2024”, which was held on December 14-15, 2024 at Y Theater, 2/F, Youth Square. This two-day anime extravaganza brought together over 20 popular idol and cosplay groups and artists to showcase their talents and energy. Additionally, more than 20 local groups showcased their incredible creativity to the market, offering a wide range of originally created anime-related items, idols, and products. The “Doujin Fan Fest 2024” also offered many workshops, including Hanfu makeup and hairstyling experiences, cosplay wig styling, and hair accessory design, providing hands-on opportunities for participants to explore their interests and their potential.

Attendees of “Doujin Fan Fest 2024” shared that they learned a lot from the event, with many describing it as a very enriching experience. Popular idol Una said the vibrant atmosphere of the festival made a lasting impression on her. She lauded that the event provided her with a platform to showcase her individuality and share her passion for stage performance and singing with other enthusiasts. Meanwhile, Bibi, the cosplay wig styling workshop instructor, revealed that it was her first time leading a workshop. She was inspired by the strong thirst for learning shown by the participants, which led her to consider developing advanced courses or creating tutorial videos. Its goal was to provide and share more learning resources about Cosplay wig styling.
Promote Chinese culture through “Hanfu makeup and style experience workshop”
Another highlight of the “Doujin Fan Fest 2024” was the “Hanfu Makeup and Style Experience Workshop”, where participants learned Hanfu makeup techniques, classic bun hairstyles and even had the chance to to try on Hanfu outfits to create their own personalized looks. The workshop was very popular with the young people.
Workshop instructor Bing-gan emphasized the importance of promoting Hanfu culture, explaining that it helps young people deepen their understanding of Chinese history and the cultural significance of Hanfu. For example, the center seam of the garment symbolizes the Confucian concept of the “Doctrine of the Average”, carrying profound meaning. Bing-gan said: “I hope students can use Hanfu as a gateway to explore Chinese culture, including its history, philosophy, aesthetics and discover the richness of Chinese heritage. One of the participants, Joyce, shared her enthusiasm: “This workshop taught me advanced makeup techniques and Hanfu hairstyle designs that are rarely offered elsewhere. I also learned that Hanfu comes in many styles and has such diverse and beautiful designs!
Another highlight of the winter edition of “YS School Cultural Festival 2024” is “Ani-com Fantasy 2024”. It presents the “Anime exhibition” on the exhibition platform Y, 1/F, Place de la Jeunesse, as well as in the public space on the 5th and 6th floors. The exhibit features Instagrammable hotspots on three popular anime, “Haikyuu!!,” “Kuroko’s Basketball,” and “Mashle: Magic and Muscles.” An interactive basketball game zone allows participants to become basketball players and showcase their shooting skills. Furthermore, on December 13, 2024a free anime screening was held, allowing anime fans to revisit the classic films “Haikyuu!! The Movie: Talent and Feelings” and “Haikyuu!! The Movie: Battle of Concepts”, engaging in the world from the anime.

Youth Square
Youth Square is a government venue and youth development initiative launched by the Office of the Interior and Youth. Facilities include the 643-seat Y Theater, Y Studio, Y Platform, a multi-purpose space, office, retail store and the 148-room Y Loft. Youth Square aims to be the hub for territory-wide youth development activities enabling young people to develop their potential. Youth Square organizes events on various themes, including music, dance, arts and culture.

Loft Y
Y Loft is conveniently located, a 3-minute walk from Chai Wan MTR Station. The 148-room Y Loft is located in the main block and hostel block of Youth Square. The room selection includes Twin Rooms, Twin Rooms with Balcony, Triple Rooms, House of Six Rooms, Duplex Rooms and Accessible Rooms. Accessible rooms, with a widened hallway and more space, are designed to provide the same comfort and peace of mind to visitors with disabilities.
