To say that the Xiaomi Mi A3 has had some bad luck with its software updates would be an honest understatement. Granted, the Chinese giant has historically struggled a bit more over the software of its Android One device in general, but even by those standards the four huge attempts it took to bring Android 10 to the Mi A3 are a little tough. They have now been followed by no less than three versions of Android 11 in quick succession.

At the very end of last year, Mi A3 users got their first OTA from Android 11, and many were quick to report that it had broken their devices. This resulted in an early halt to the rollout, along with a promise to support affected phones for free from the company.
This shutdown lasted roughly a few hours and an OTA started sowing again. Credit where credit is due – incredibly fast job on Xiaomi’s part, even if it was damage control. However, the second version of Android 11, as functional as it is, left users wanting a few things. Namely the built-in screen recording feature, which was removed from the release, as well as slightly newer Android security fixes to replace those from December 2020.

Screen recording is available again
These two elements are present in the new OTA package which has recently started to sow, with a V12.0.4.0.RFQMIXM (global variant) number built. The download is 329MB and contains both the screen recorder and the January 2021 security patches. Additionally, the YouTube Music app is now an Android system app and is part of the default upload.
Hoping that the third time is the charm and it will be nothing more than smooth navigation for Mi A3 users from now on.
