Kenneth Wong, Managing Director, MICE and Cruises of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) said: “We are delighted that Hong Kong has become the destination of choice for many aviation and logistics events! The city’s status as an aviation hub with a globally connected transport network, scalable airport city development, premier convention venues and a gateway to the GBA makes it a strategic choice in the region to host major industry events. »
hong kong
as an aviation hub
Located in the heart of Asia, Hong Kong is less than a five-hour flight from half the world’s population, with Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) offering world-class air travel services. It is frequently ranked among the world’s busiest international passenger airports, as it hosts some 120 airlines; it is also the busiest cargo airport in the world, with cargo throughput of 4.2 million tonnes in 2022, making it one of the few airports to lead in both areas.
Airport City as a business event booster
To improve connectivity with the GBA and the world, HKIA is transforming from an airport city to an airport city.
A solid expansion strategy is in place, including the three-track system which will increase capacity by 50% to serve 120 million passengers and 10 million tonnes of freight per year. Plans are underway to strengthen the multi-modal network with GBA cities through state-of-the-art cross-border infrastructure, a Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge to ensure smooth travel through Hong Kong, helping to facilitate more trade multi-destinations and excursions in the region. As part of the Airport City development, AWE, located right next to the international airport, is expanding to house the largest indoor arena in the city, with over 20,000 seats, attracting more events to large scale in the city. These improvements position the city as a super-connector to seize more business opportunities both in the lucrative GBA market and globally, thus providing impetus for the growth of Hong Kong’s MICE industry.
Vivian Cheung, Chief Operating Officer, Airport Authority Hong Kong and Hong Kong Convention Ambassador said, “I am delighted to bring important industry events to our city, which reflect Hong Kong’s role as a leading aviation, transport and logistics hub. As a member of the Hong Kong Convention Ambassador Program, I look forward to hosting even more business events and delegates from around the world. »
Simon Li, President of AWE commented, “AWE is immensely proud to facilitate transformative dialogues aimed at redefining the transportation and logistics industries. The events will demonstrate the unprecedented synergies that can be achieved within the all-in-one setting of Lantau, the heart of Hong Kong’s transport network, comprised of new hotels, the largest retail, restaurant and city entertainment – 11SKIES, and an award-winning MICE venue.
IATA Global Cargo Symposium to be held in Hong Kong for the first time
The world’s leading air cargo hub for many years, HKIA will be the host airport for the 2024 edition of the
IATA Global Cargo Symposium in March. The conference is expected to attract more than 1,000 attendees from around the world, aiming to address topics related to technology and innovation, security and customs, cargo operations and sustainability.

This includes a strong hub airline, Cathay Pacific, as well as experience and expertise in handling perishable cargo, lithium. batteries and other dangerous goods. I am confident that Hong Kong’s traffic will return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024, three years ahead of schedule, which is in line with expectations for a faster recovery in the Asia- Peaceful. ”
