Smartphone companies are experimenting with a number of different solutions as we enter the era of foldable devices. The final clue to what the future holds comes from an vivo patent for a design that looks like an inverted Motorola StarTAC – an outward hinge at the bottom and a screen extending to the rear panel.

The list appeared at CNIPA (China’s National Intellectual Property Administration) with sketches on all sides, even revealing that vivo plans to put five cameras (one with a periscope lens) in the rear in an X formation on one. square island. There is also room for the LED flash which is a small strip on the right side – just like the vivo X50 Pro, for example.

Vivo’s foldable smartphone patent
Patenting this unusual design for a foldable device doesn’t mean that vivo is about to release a commercial-ready solution. Smartphone companies are experimenting with a number of different designs, with only a fraction of them ending up on store shelves. However, it’s good to see that there is no shortage of mobile phone companies with great ideas as we move past the increasingly boring touch bars.
