PCCW (SEHK: 0008) – Viu, Asia’s first pan-regional OTT video streaming service, today announced that it has won the “Special Contribution for K-Wave” award at the Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT Awards (ACA & G.OTT Awards) 2023 which were held in the South. Korea on October 8, 2023. The newly introduced category recognizes the contribution of OTT streamers in making K-content a global phenomenon. Viu is an early winner in this category, having brought Korean and Asian content to large audiences globally, with over 60 million active users across its footprint.
Co-hosted by the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT and the Busan Metropolitan City Authority, and co-hosted by the Busan International Film Festival and the Korea Radio Promotion Association, the ACA & G.OTT Awards celebrate the achievements of great content across TV, OTT and online channels across Asia. The event is a rebranding of the fifth edition of the Asia Contents Awards (ACA), as part of its efforts to adapt to changes in the growing content industry and support national and international quality.
Since its launch in 2015, Viu has been one of the strongest promoters of Asian content, particularly K-content, outside of Korea in the digital space. Currently in its eighth year of operation, Viu offers localized K-dramas on the same day as they air in Korea, in addition to actively investing in Viu Korean originals. Viu was also among the first OTT service providers to launch a freemium model in Asia, which helped accelerate the adoption and legal consumption of Korean content in the digital space, effectively monetizing K-content for AVOD and SVOD.
