HANOI, VIETNAM – Media OutReach Newswire – February 29, 2024 – VinBrain, a pioneering AI HealthTech company within the Vingroup conglomerate, has officially signed a commercial agreement with the Global Fund to transfer artificial intelligence (AI) technology for tuberculosis (TB) screening and detection in as part of Vietnam’s national tuberculosis prevention campaign. VinBrain is the only entity chosen for this agreement with the Global Fund in 2024.
DrAid™ for tuberculosis screeninga solution developed from VinBrain’s innovative and visionary approach to the application of cutting-edge technologies, aligns with the Fund’s strict criteria, contributing to the health and progress of the community.

The accuracy of DrAid™ for TB screening reaches 95%, reducing disease detection time and screening costs.
The collaboration aims to transform TB detection using advanced AI technology, significantly reducing diagnosis time through analysis of x-ray images. This eliminates the need for additional bacterial PCR testing for TB, thereby reducing testing costs.
from 50-60 US$ to only 1 US$. Additionally, AI generates its results as a file or QR code, thereby reducing environmental impact. As part of the agreement, VinBrain plans to transfer technology from 32 AI licenses, enabling the screening of one million suspected cases of tuberculosis starting in April 2024.
the largest initiative of its kind to date.
This initiative notably goes beyond existing efforts by making it possible to reach remote areas, overcoming the geographical limitations of Vietnam or developing countries. The low cost helps maximize the use of the budget, ensuring that more people benefit from this program through cutting-edge technology. This approach effectively eliminates geographic barriers, making healthcare accessible to underserved areas with the ability to quickly identify abnormal TB regions on chest X-ray images within 15 to 20 seconds. Ultimately, this agreement contributes to the elimination of tuberculosis in Vietnam by 2035.
DrAid™ for tuberculosis screening, with sensitivity and specificity of up to 96%, has long been a reliable diagnostic tool for Vietnamese doctors.
Dr Pham Ngoc Thanh, head of the medical imaging department at Hai Phong Pulmonary Hospitalsaid: “The accuracy of DrAid™ X-ray image reading for TB screening reaches 95% in approximately 1,000 patients with suspected TB. »
“VinBrain, as one of the few AI HealthTech companies in the world, chose to fight TB because it perfectly aligns with our company’s mission since its inception,” said
Steven Truong, founder and CEO of VinBrain.
Developed entirely by Vietnamese experts using a machine learning dataset of 4 million samples, DrAid™ for TB screening has been successfully validated and deployed in many hospitals across the country by renowned independent organizations around the world, such as the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics and Friends for International Tuberculosis Relief (ADJUST).
This campaign represents a significant contribution to public health, particularly in Vietnam, which remains a country with a high prevalence of tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis. With more than 12,000 to 15,000 deaths annually and hundreds of thousands of people infected, primarily in economically disadvantaged communities, the need for effective solutions is paramount.
In line with VinBrain’s mission and collaborative spirit, AI-based TB screening solution DrAid™ is preparing to launch a dedicated version for children with a sensitivity of 90.76% and specificity of 89 .45%. Therefore, DrAid™ AI for TB screening exceeds the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation for AI-based TB screening, which specifies sensitivity ≥90% and specificity ≥70 %. This demonstrates that DrAid™ AI exceeds WHO criteria by more than 20 points in terms of specificity. This revolutionary and pioneering technology enables comprehensive diagnosis of tuberculosis in children aged 3 to 15 years – a group often overlooked in conventional testing methods and prone to misinterpretation of chest x-rays. This advancement marks an important milestone in the responsible application of AI for societal good, contributing to the advancement of environmental, social and governance (ESG) values globally.
