Honda Vietnam Corporation recently reported that retail sales of the joint venture’s motorcycle and auto businesses fell significantly in January 2023 from the previous month, down 13.1% and 35.7%, respectively.
In the motorcycle industry, Honda Vietnam sold 222,545 vehicles of all types in January, down 13.1% from the previous month and down 16% from the same period last year.
In particular 3 motorcycle models in the 3 segments of digital cars, scooters and manual scooters are generally the company’s best-selling vehicles each month, but sales fell 9-45% in January.

In terms of car segment sales, Honda Vietnam sold 1,494 vehicles in January, down 35.7% from the previous month and down 60.4% from the same period last year.
With 1,107 vehicles sold, Honda City and Honda CR-V remain the two best-selling models in this joint venture, accounting for 74.1% of the total vehicle sales volume in January 2023.
Experts argue that because the Lunar New Year fell in January this year, shoppers generally declined, especially in the days leading up to and after Tet. As a result, the motorcycle and car market in Vietnam fell sharply in the first month of the new year.
This is also the general market trend in the month of Tet every year, and it will increase again in the following trading months for numerous items, including cars and motorcycles.
