Samuel, who has worked on many Hollywood blockbusters, came to Vietnam at the invitation of director Dan Tran to handle the action sequences for “Ke An Danh”. Kieu Minh Tuan, who plays the main character, and most of the other actors on set have no martial arts experience, and Samuel is in charge of describing the steps in each scene and guiding them through practice.
The 41-year-old stuntman and his team strive to bring iconic Vietnamese action scenes to a series of chases through the streets of Saigon.
“It took me a long time, especially with the role of Tuan. The hardest thing was authenticity, to convince the audience to believe the martial arts scenes in the film,” Samuel said.
Samuel was a stuntman for blockbusters such as “Fast & Furious 6”, “Jason Bourne”, “Spectre” and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”. He also worked as a martial arts director for “The Princess”, “Kung Fu Zohra” and “City Hunter”.
Tuan said it took him six months to prepare for the role at the director’s request. The actor grew his hair out for nearly three months, sunbathed to darken his skin, and dieted for a slimmer body.
“Ke An Danh” revolves around main character Lam, who fights against a gang to protect his family.
The film is set to hit theaters on September 2.
