Vietnam remains the world’s largest pepper producer, heard an international conference on Vietnam’s pepper industry held Nov. 9-10 in Dak Lak province in the Central Highlands, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The data from Vu Ba Phu, the trade promotion agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, showed that Vietnam’s pepper exports are estimated at 220,000 tons in 2022, accounting for 55% of the world’s total pepper output.
In order for Vietnamese paprika products to sustainably establish their position on the global market, the sector must comply with international standards, especially in terms of chemical residues and socio-economic and environmental sustainable production criteria.
The industry also needs to adopt technologies in production management, traceability and customer retention; refocusing the strategy to build image and strengthen presence in key markets; and have specific and effective strategies for developing new products in high-end markets, Phu emphasized.
“The conference is an opportunity to connect buyers and sellers and promote the image, people and potential of Dak Lak, the premier pepper growing site in Vietnam,” said Hoang Thi Lien, president of the Vietnam Pepper Association. .
“In order to ensure the value and sustainable development of the pepper sector, close cooperation between exporters, processors and producers is always necessary.
Farmers should be at the center and they should improve their agricultural knowledge themselves,” she added.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, during the two-day conference, participants listened to an overview of the global bell pepper market, sustainable bell pepper cultivation and development strategies in line with market requirements, and prospects for the Vietnamese bell pepper industry.
