As part of his business trip to accompany the Prime Minister to attend the ASEAN-US special summit, Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Hong Dien held working meetings with key partners and US companies, including the leader of the Walmart retail group.
According to information posted on the Department of Industry and Commerce website, Mr. Paul Dyck, vice president in charge of global government relations, said during a meeting with the Walmart retail group that the retail group has invested in a direct retail and distribution system. in 24 countries, has trading activities and procures goods with more than 100 other countries. In particular, Vietnam is currently among the group of 5 countries that export the most goods to the Walmart system, which focuses on providing textiles, home appliances, electronics and ready-to-eat food, etc.
According to Mr Paul Dyck, the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, trade disputes and global geopolitics have increased the risk of supply chain disruptions, which is a requirement to improve stability and diversify the Group’s supply chain. This is also an issue that Walmart wants the support of the Department of Industry and Commerce, according to the Department of Industry and Commerce website.
Also according to this website, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien shared and appreciated Walmart Group’s strategy to secure supplies, and thanked Walmart for choosing Vietnam as a long-term partner.
The minister suggested that in the near future, Walmart should strengthen coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on training and improving business capacity, help enterprises understand the needs of the market and meet the needs of all kinds of goods, products. understand and proactively produce and export raw materials; at the same time expanding the list of purchased goods.
At the same time, the minister also suggested that this retail group should build a database system with connectivity, so that companies can provide multidimensional information; help connect with capable US companies in supporting industries, materials, processing… to build a stable supply of raw materials and make good use of Vietnam’s existing free trade agreements is a member to bring Vietnamese goods into the Group’s retail system to markets around the world.
Vice Chairman Paul Dyck said that in the near future the Group will lead the representative office in Vietnam to strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, send delegations and purchasing groups to Vietnam to monitor the import volume of goods of Vietnamese origin of the Group.
