BANGKOK, THAILAND – Media OutReach Newswire – March 26, 2024 – On March 20, 2024, at the request and agreement of the Thai National Center for the Dissemination of Buddhism and the National Strategic Deployment of Buddhism, the new research and innovation center on Digital Buddhism, built by NetDragon’s Digital Religion Department, has made a stunning debut. This space is located at the National Center for the Dissemination of Buddhism, the Sangha Education Supervision Center and the Tipitaka Translation Project, bringing together the latest digital Buddhist products of the department and providing a promising prospect for continuous upgrading of National Digital Buddhism of Thailand.

The Center is a benchmark project for digital Buddhism successfully launched in Thailand by NetDragon following the presentation of the United Nations Vesak Day Metaverse last year. It is also Thailand’s first national digital Buddhist research base to be established after the release of the “Summary of the Buddhist Promotion Master Plan 2023-2037”.

The center is headed by Most Ven.Prof. Dr Phra Brahmapundit, member of the Supreme Sangha Committee of Thailand, Chairman of the United Nations International Vesak Day Council, President of the International Association of Buddhist Universities and former President of Mahachulalongkorn University. After visiting the center, Most Ven. affirmed NetDragon’s effort and supported the following work for the deployment of Thai Digital Buddhism. He hopes that the research center can comprehensively promote and present the model of modernization and future development of Thai Buddhism.

Mi Xiong, General Director of NetDragon’s Digital Religion Department, accompanied Right Ven. and his team throughout the visit, presenting the center’s digital products. Mi Xiong expressed his great honor in helping the Thai National Center for the Dissemination of Buddhism build the first national-level digital Buddhist research base and pledged to continue exploring the use of digital power to help to the dissemination of Thai Buddhism and world Buddhist culture.

During its debut, the Center showcased several digital Buddhist projects, including AR Vision -Nine Ball Meditation, a tool jointly developed by NetDragon and Rokid that combines Rokid’s latest AR glasses to provide users with auditory, visual, and even tactile assistance for meditation. . Rokid AR breaks the barriers between body and space through “AI+AR”, using spatial computing capabilities of “visualization” and “interaction”, allowing participants to enter an intelligent creation space. This not only brings a new experience to meditation, but also provides a new form of observable, palpable and experiential experience for Buddhist practices, education and the dissemination of Buddhist wisdom and culture. After having experienced it, Mgr. expressed that this new form of digital practice will have broader and deeper inspiration for Buddhist education, worthy of further exploration and promotion.

The research center also presented the Digital Religion standing machine, a product that combines online guided tours, online light offering and pre-booking of Buddhist events using an H5 platform as a service support in online and offline. Very Ven. greatly admired this product, stating that it was exactly the digital temple shape he had been looking for for years. After receiving the affirmation, Mi Xiong proposed to vigorously promote the ecological model of digital temples in Thailand.

Additionally, the center also introduced an AR tour guide and interactive experience facilities combining VR technology with Buddhist themes. It also includes the ActivPanel 9, a new interactive tablet from Promethean, which has approximately 30% global market share for smart displays. The Promethean Smart Display will provide an integrated, immersive and interactive classroom as well as various intelligent teaching software tools for future Buddhist education.

The completion and launch of the Digital Buddhist Research Center will provide a more diverse range of discussion topics for the upcoming UN Vesak Day and welcome distinguished monks, scholars and professors from around the world to visit and experience. Mi Xiong said the department is willing to exchange and learn from professionals in the Buddhist world and will focus on promoting the global spread of Buddhist culture and supporting the development of Buddhist education using a advanced technology.

In the future, the Digital Buddhism Research and Innovation Center will explore expandable, durable and reconstructable digital Buddhist worlds in the areas of teaching, propagation, experience and research. NetDragon’s Digital Religion Department will also use the center as a base to help the United Nations promote and deploy digital Buddhism at various universities and Buddhist institutions. Using advanced software and hardware, AI, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies, as well as gamification, modern technology and modern healing methods, the department aims to innovate in the dissemination of Buddhist culture and to contribute to the establishment of a solid and lasting way of life and values. .
