Speaking at the “Digital Media Promotes Economic Recovery” seminar hosted by the Center for Digital Content Development and Production (VTVDigital), Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper: Fake news will keep getting bigger and bigger in scale.

“Fake news today is made by specific people, but in the future it will be made in huge quantities by artificial intelligence (AI), hundreds, thousands of times more than today.” When such a large amount of fake news spreads on social networks, it will spread quickly. Even responsible people, including some news agencies, also falsely publish fake news. This could happen to any news agency in the world.

In the face of a stormy wave of fake news, official information channels need to be much more accurate and accurate. “After users rush to the sea of information on the Internet, they can search for official news agencies to verify. At present, the official news agencies are providing targeted and accurate information. really,” said Mr. Minh.

Social networks must stop profiting from the spread of fake news

The seminar “Digital communication promotes economic recovery” took place this morning on 24 May

With this role, Mr. Le Quoc Minh said that at this point, the press no longer has to compete with social networks, but needs accuracy. This is an extremely important reference channel for users. On the user side, each person should calm down, do not rush to believe, immediately share information read on social networks or information pages, but verify the information he receives in order to avoid consequences.

As for the story on how to prevent fake news on digital platforms, the leaders of the Press Service (Ministry of Information and Communication) shared that fake news is a big, complicated story and everyone should be responsible, including the readers themselves.

From the management bureau’s perspective, the press department leader said: “The management bureaus have had solutions to prevent this and have done it. However, we cannot forever “release the chickens to hunt” and chase to deal with the consequences, but will have to take measures to catch it first”. For example, the regulator will work more with social networking platforms: TikTok, Facebook, YouTube… Cross-border social networking platforms will have to do better than they do now in preventing fake news There were times when these platforms and even now profit from spreading fake news.

“Social networks need to do this better, stop to some extent from profiting from spreading fake news. It doesn’t just stop with awareness, if not, then sanctions must be imposed,” said the head of the press department.

One solution is for news agencies to bring official information into cyberspace. “We cannot allow social media to become a standalone place for unofficial sources of information,” he said.

In addition, Press Department leaders said the days of users reading everything for free must come to an end, moving to an engaged, paid media economy with users who create significant value for the organization. media agency. “Participants in the media ecosystem are more controlled, information is more selective,” he said.
