Motorola hasn’t exactly led the pack in delivering timely updates lately. In fact, some users are still waiting for versions of Android 10. However, things could get better, at least for Moto G Pro owners. There is already an official update to Android 11 for units in the UK. In fact, according to the official update portal that the company put together in a fairly recent effort to try to help with faster and more seamless delivery, the particular package has been available since January 21!
It is only now coming to our attention, because no one has really fussed over it. That is until a senior moderator from Motorola’s community forum confirms that it is being downloaded to his Moto G Pro unit.
Shortly after, a screenshot of the update screen also appeared on Reddit for the 1.1 GB package. He notes that the January 2021 security patches are part of the payload.
Update screen
There isn’t a detailed changelog yet, but users can certainly expect all the new features that come with Android 11. Things like new conversations, speech bubbles, and media and device controls, Unique permissions and a built-in screen recorder, to name a few. You can head over to our Android 11 review for more information.
While it’s great to see Motorola launch its Android 11 update efforts, it’s a little odd that the Moto G Pro receives the package first, out of all the models the company has officially promised to eventually run Android. 11. The only schedule planned for the deployment was as follows: “from the coming months, awaiting support from partners”.
However, a closer look at the Moto G Pro quickly reminds us that it is part of Google’s Android One program. This certainly explains the faster delivery of Android 11. Plus, the fact that although it’s essentially the same device, the US Moto G Stylus has yet to be updated. The latter is not an Android One device.
Motorola’s new desktop mode arrives with its Android 11 update
In fact, recalling some of Motorola’s other promises of additional features intended to ship with Android 11 (the non-Android One version, that is), like desktop mode and a TV interface, we does hope that a wider rollout of the Android 11 update for more models is just around the corner. Hoping, however, that Motorola will prove the contrary.
