Hong Kong,, October 4, 2025 / Prnewswire / – Caretia, a local technological startup based in Hong Kong Science Park, announced today that its lung cancer screening platform fueled by AI had reached the initial stages and entered a new development phase. This progress is closely aligned with the direction set out in the address of the 2025 policy, where the chief executive, Mr. John Lee, said that the government would in depth the prevention and diagnosis of cancer and specifically recommended the launch of the detection of lung cancer assisted by the AI.
According to HK Cancer Online Resource Hub data, lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers in Hong Kong and is the main cause of cancer deaths. A basic challenge contributing to its high mortality rate is that lung cancer at an early stage generally has no obvious symptoms. As the symptoms emerge, the condition has often progressed to an intermediate or advanced stage. While low -dose computed tomography is internationally recognized as an effective method for early detection, its generalized adoption in screening programs is always faced with practical challenges.
The Caretia team, made up of third cycle research students and graduates from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in fields, including medicine and computer science, has developed and refined its AI model in the past year to improve the efficiency of screening and reduce costs. The company is also associated with local charities to subsidize pulmonary health projections for disadvantaged communities in Hong Kong. This initiative not only provides critical early screening for those who need it, but also generates precious and relevant clinical data locally to further improve the accuracy of the AI model for the population of Hong Kong.
“We welcome the latest policy address and are greatly encouraged by its emphasis on the implementation of AI technology to improve screening and diagnosis of cancer,” said Philip Tsang, co-founder and CEO of Caretia. “Our R&D in progress in the analysis of AI AT CTT is designed to identify the lesions at an early stage in a proactive manner. If lung cancer can be detected and treated at an initial stage, patient recovery rates can be considerably improved, while considerably reducing public and private health costs.”
Philip also added: “As a technological team at Racine Local, we are ready to contribute to the health care sector. We are impatient with the best innovative talents in Hong Kong and to promote close collaboration between the government’s health authorities, university institutions and the scientific research community to collectively build a healthier future.”
