In an unprecedented event in his 18-year career, a Thai pilot helped deliver a baby boy in the middle of a flight from Taiwan to Thailand.
Jakarin Sararnrakskul, a veteran pilot and father, was captaining a VietJet flight from Taipei to Bangkok on February 23 when a passenger went into labor.
Informed by the cabin crew of the urgent situation, Sararnrakskul left the cockpit, leaving the plane in the hands of his co-pilot, to assist the mother-to-be in the plane’s toilet, as reported Aerotime.
He managed to deliver the baby while the plane was in flight.
Sararnrakskul said it was his first experience giving birth, a scenario he had never encountered during his racing career.
In an Instagram post, which includes a photo of himself holding the newborn on the plane, Jakarin Sararnrakskul wrote in Thai: “I have been a pilot for 18 years and I just helped a newborn on the plane Today.”

As soon as the plane arrived in Bangkok, paramedics were ready to ensure the well-being of the mother and her newborn.
Both were found to be in good health.
Sararnrakskul expressed his pride in being part of this unique birth, highlighting the remarkable story the boy will have throughout his life: he was born in the air.
According to a 2020 study, published by the International Society of Travel Medicine, 74 children were born on commercial flights between 1929 and 2018, according to News from the sky. All but three survived, according to the study.
