Tesla Model Y Standard Range comes back with a higher range after CEO Elon Musk said that the electric SUV has an “unacceptably low range” and later discontinued it.

It turns out that the Tesla Model Y Standard Range is not entirely gone as it launched outside of the United States.
Electrek reported that the sudden launch of the discontinued vehicle in Hong Kong came as a shocker. In hindsight, the Tesla boss once halted the production of the said Model Y range.
Tesla Model Y Standard Range Comeback
Initially, the electric SUV only had 244 miles or 393 km range for its price of $42,000. According to Teslarati, Musk said that the said range failed to make it to the “Standard of Excellence” the Telsa subscribes to.
On February 21, a month after it launched on January 7, Tesla’s website removed the Standard Range variant listing. It comes after the said vehicle faced a price reduction of $2,000.

The Tesla boss tweeted that the electric SUV will only be available off the menu, similar to the Model 3, likewise carrying the Standard Range moniker.
To order a Tesla vehicle off the menu, a representative from the company will have to make a formal request to the factory that manufactures the car. It is a long process in comparison to ordering a Tesla on its website or app.
Tesla Model Y Standard Range Hong Kong Launch
Nevertheless, the Model Y Standard Range is back, at least in Hong Kong, sporting the rear-wheel-drive option. And noticeably, the electric vehicle now boasts a 455 km or 283 miles range even with the cheapest variant.
The new range is a drastic improvement from the United States version that ended up being discontinued.
Additionally, the Hong Kong release carries a WLTP standard, which expectedly delivers an improved range than the EPA cycle that the U.S. had.

US Comeback?
Electrek noted in the same report that the low range of the vehicle seems to be fitting for a small country like Hong Kong, which only totals 30.34 sq mi.
That said, the “unacceptably low range” of the said electric SUV may have found its new home.
Meanwhile, the China-made Tesla Model Y, together with the Model 3 faced a remote recall due to a suspected sudden acceleration issue. About 250,855 of the said vehicles received a software update to resolve the mess.
