HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – September 19, 2023 – SUNeVision Holdings Ltd. (“SUNeVision”, SEHK: 1686), the leading data center provider and connectivity hub in Hong Kong, and HKBN Group (“HKBN”, SEHK: 1310), the leading provider of integrated telecommunications and ICT solutions, today announced the start of operations of its co-investment submarine cable system, TKO Connect. This project represents a significant milestone in next-generation submarine fiber cable systems, as it enables ultra-reliable and seamless interconnection between the high-end MEGA-i and MEGA Plus data centers in Hong Kong.
TKO Connect is a dedicated subsea fiber cable system directly connecting SUNeVision’s MEGA-i, Chai Wan’s most critical subsea interconnection hub, and MEGA Plus, Tseung’s state-of-the-art hyperscale data center Kwan O. Spanning approximately 3 km between the two areas, this new cable system offers the most direct and shortest route between MEGA-i and MEGA Plus – more than 20 km shorter and 4 times faster than other land routes.[1] with latency as low as 0.014 milliseconds[2]. TKO Connect is also the first and only dual path submarine cable in Hong Kong, with two physical cables specially constructed underwater to achieve full resilience and ensure network continuity for business operational excellence . The cable terminates directly at the carrier-neutral MEGA-i installation with minimal splicing and fiber loss, making it ultra-reliable. Interconnecting MEGA-i with MEGA Plus, the cable will be further extended to MEGA IDC, the hyperscale data center in Tseung Kwan O which is currently under development, allowing customers to leverage MEGA-i’s robust ecosystem with high security and low latency. to access.
The implementation of TKO Connect further enhances SUNeVision’s MEGA-i and MEGA Plus installations by introducing an additional layer of direct, ultra-low latency connectivity, effectively linking the two data centers as a unified entity, working seamlessly. transparent to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness for customers. .
With a long tradition of pioneering advances that brought high-speed Internet to market, HKBN is a leader in building innovative fiber optic infrastructure. Having invested billions of dollars in its world-class proprietary fiber infrastructure over the past three decades, HKBN is the only operator in Hong Kong to operate a unique three-carrier network (comprising three fiber networks from HKBN, WTT and NWT with coverage to more than 8,000 commercial buildings and facilities), providing unmatched route diversity to meet the full range of carrier and business needs.
Allen Fung, Vice President and Executive Director of SUNeVision said: “We are pleased to announce the launch of TKO Connect today. Our flagship MEGA-i data center has served as a critical interconnection hub for Asia and the world for many years. The completion of TKO Connect, which connects MEGA-i to our TKO data centers (i.e. MEGA Plus and the new MEGA IDC) will significantly increase the speed and improve the latency of data exchange between these data centers. This will allow our MEGA-i customers to scale seamlessly across our TKO data centers, unconstrained by capacity at MEGA-i. It also allows our customers to build resilience by having multiple hubs within our MEGA campus. We believe that with TKO Connect, along with the new submarine cables that will “land at” MEGA-i, will further strengthen SUNeVision’s role as a critical hub in Asia.
NiQ Lai, co-owner of HKBN and group CEO sharing, “As a company driven by the purpose of ‘making our home a better place to live,’ our investments have always been the backbone of society’s progress. This pioneering collaboration continues our commitment to providing our customers with industry-leading breakthroughs, as we redefine the subsea space to meet the hyper-accelerated demand of the Asia-Pacific region’s digital economy .
