Hanoi, Vietnam, November 23, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Viettel High Technology announced the successful validation of the deployment of the first 5G Open RAN gNodeB powered by an industry leader Qualcomm® 5G RAN platforms. Viettel is the first company in the world to deploy 5G Open RAN network equipment with the Qualcomm® X100 5G RAN accelerator card and Qualcomm® QRU100 5G RAN platform on a live network with real users and data traffic. This remarkable milestone was achieved by Viettel and Qualcomm Technologies in just 8 months from the initial design presentation at Mobile World Congress 2023 in March to this successful deployment.
The installation site of this 5G gNodeB is located within a network cluster that Viettel had deployed since 2021 in the Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi, Vietnam. This area is a typical representation of the 5G deployment model in urban areas with high population density and near university campuses, benefiting from a high concentration of subscribers, between 300 and 400 subscribers per cell. Deploying in this high-traffic area facilitated the product optimization process, allowing Viettel to quickly improve its products to meet the stringent requirements of its networks.
Leveraging its unique position as a leading 5G network operator and original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Viettel has accelerated the 5G gNodeB development process by leveraging the capabilities of 5G RAN platforms. Qualcomm. Capitalizing on an active networking environment characterized by dense user bases and large data loads, the engineering teams at Viettel and Qualcomm Technologies continually refined the product, leading to the successful end-to-end integration of the gNodeB 32T32R 5G with downlink throughput reaching 850 Mbps in real network scenarios. As measured during this deployment validation, this performance closely aligns with that of equivalent products offered by the world’s leading vendors. Following the successful validation of the deployment in VietnamViettel plans to introduce these products in its eleven international markets and expand them to other global operators.
