HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – August 31, 2023 – The Center for Construction and Infrastructure Development Innovation (CICID) and the MiC Lab (MiCLab) of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) organized a Strategic Public Policy Forum titled “Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Supply Chain in the Greater Bay Area for Hong Kong’s Development: Preliminary Policy Roadmap and Action Plan” on August 30. The event brought together prominent speakers from government, industry and academia to share the state of play. -artistic research, practices and policies aimed at improving the MiC supply chain.
The Center for Innovation in Construction and Infrastructure Development (CICID) and the MiC Laboratory (MiCLab) of the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) organized a strategic public policy forum titled “Chain of Modular Integrated Building (MiC) Procurement in the Greater Bay Area for Hong Kong Development: Policy Roadmap and Draft Action Plan” on August 30.
Prof. Wei PAN, Acting Executive Vice President (Administration and Finance) of HKU and Director of MiCLab, delivered the welcoming remarks. He highlighted the significant growth in MiC adoption in Hong Kong since 2017, but noted that the MiC supply chain faces various technical and management challenges.
“This strategic public policy research project aims to establish an enabling business environment and recommend a policy roadmap with an action plan to improve the MiC supply chain in the GBA for the development of Hong Kong. The forum under this research project is to share preliminary policy,” says Professor Pan.
Ir Ricky LAU, JP, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) of HKSAR Government Development Office delivered the keynote address and keynote address. “The CICID is an unfailing partner in supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting MiC. They shared their expertise, experience and knowledge regarding the MiC supply chain in the GBA to facilitate the development of Hong Kong.
Also, in the presence of Ir Ricky LAU, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), and Professor David Srolovitz, Dean of Engineering of HKU, Director of MiCLab, Professor Wei PAN and Mr. Michael LI, Deputy Director of architectural departments of the HKSAR government, jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen government-university collaboration on exploring development opportunities and promoting the effective use of MiC and to support the research and development of the MiC in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, followed by the launch of a MiC safety study. lifting supported by the Development Office.
