- The partnership will assess advanced ultrasound technologies to improve the early detection and monitoring of steatotic liver diseases associated with metabolic dysfunction
- Advanced ultrasound technologies which are safer alternatives and more accessible to invasive diagnostic procedures
- Research led by a hepatologist respected worldwide, the associate professor Dan Yock Young
SINGAPORE,, October 8, 2025 / Prnewswire / – Siemens Healthineers and the National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore announced a strategic research collaboration to advance diagnostic solutions for steatotic liver diseases associated with metabolic dysfunction (MASLD), which affects almost 40% of adults in Singapore – a higher prevalence than the world average of 30.05%.
Masld, formerly known as non -alcoholic liver disease (NAFLD), is now the most common cause of chronic liver diseases in the world. The high load of Singapore reflects the increase in levels of obesity, sedentary lifestyles and associated metabolic conditions – a serious trend which requires a more effective approach and suitable for patients in liver care.
The research initiative will be directed by Associate Professor Dan Yock Young, principal consultant, division of gastroenterology and hepatology, Nuh Medicine Department, and Associate Professor, Department of Medicine of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. A hepatologist respected on a global scale, his pioneer contributions to research on liver diseases have established international benchmarks. His leadership lends both clinical excellence and a global perspective to the project.
The collaborative study will evaluate the advanced ultrasound ultrasound technologies of Siemens Healthineers: Fraction of grease derived by ultrasound (UDFF) and elastography of automatic point shear (Auto PSWE). These tools allow doctors to measure in a non -invasive manner both liver fat and rigidity in a single rationalized session, offering safer and more profitable alternatives to MRI analyzes and invasive biopsies. Early detection, more precise surveillance and timely intervention could redefine the liver care route through the region.
“With Nuh, led by Professor Associate Dan Yock Young, we will study how advanced ultrasound technologies can transform liver care by offering a profitable alternative to invasive biopsy or high -cost imagery,” said VY Tran, president of Japan Asia-Pacific, Siemens Healthineers. “Our objective is to make ultrasound technologies accessible not only in tertiary hospitals but also at the polyclinic level. If we can integrate these solutions into the liver care pathway, we can provide earlier detection, better surveillance and timely interventions to people who need it. With this research collaboration, we hope Clinics for patients in the ultra-pronted region. “
“This collaboration represents an important step forward in the fight against MASLD, which quickly emerges as a major burden for health in Singapore,” said Associate Professor and Yock Young. “In Nuh, we combine a deep clinical expertise in liver and metabolic health, supported by strong translational research. By working with partners such as Siemens Healthineers, we are well placed for pioneer new approaches to detect, treat and prevent disease, thus helping more patients to live a healthier life.”
The initiative is part of the next National University Center for Digestive Health, which should open its doors in January 2026, which aims to improve patient access to advanced diagnostic innovations.
“With almost 40% of adults in Singapore affected, liver disease is a silent epidemic that we can no longer ignore. This collaboration reflects our shared responsibility to change this story. By providing ultrasound innovation to the first lines of care, but we can allow doctors with better tools and offer patients not only precise diagnoses, but a healthier future,” Only diagnoses, but hope for a healthier future, “said better tools and offer patients not only diagnoses, but hope for a healthier future,” said Chaitanya Mehrotra, head of ultrasound, Asia-Pacific, Siemens Healthineers.
This partnership takes advantage of Nuh’s clinical expertise alongside the technological innovation of Siemens Healthineers for pioneer of breakthroughs in health care for all, everywhere, permanently, while making medical innovation advance and providing excellence in patient care.
