UD Trucks marks a decade of recognition of Quester’s achievements and development. Launched in 2013, Quester continues to bring flexibility to transportation applications, while enabling ultimate reliability through optimal TCO (total cost of ownership) and uptime reliability.
SINGAPORE – Media Outreach – 29 August 2023 – UD Trucks celebrates the 10thth anniversary of the heavyweight Quester and proudly reflects its journey of innovation and expansion. Quester aims to embody the company’s vision of creating trucks that meet today’s global demands. Developed with a strong focus on customer needs and leveraging UD Trucks’ 87 years of Japanese engineering expertise, Quester presents itself as a contemporary heavy-duty truck designed to meet the demands of growing markets and the world entire.

The first Quester began its road trip in 2013, first in Thailand. Today, UD Trucks is proud to announce that over the past 10 years, Questers have traveled the roads of over 46 countries on 4 continents.
Jacques Michel, Senior Vice President of International Sales for UD Trucks, said: “Since the introduction and the continuous innovations that we started with Quester, UD Trucks has always kept the
Gemba spirit at the top of the list. We are committed to staying closely connected to the field and understanding the requirements of our customers in different markets. Our goal is to continue to be their preferred transportation solution provider. »
Quaestor Evolution
Over the past decade, Quester has expanded its line to offer a range of 13 configurations, demonstrating its remarkable versatility for businesses. This includes the introduction of a new 8-litre GH8E engine alongside the initially introduced 11-litre GH11E variant, both designed for strong torque and efficient fuel consumption through low engine speed operation. Available horsepower options range from 250 to 460 horsepower, and buyers can also choose between a 9- or 12-speed gearbox as well as single or hub-reduction drive axles. Additionally, Quester offers a range of axle configurations including 4×2, 6×2, 6×4, 8×2 and 8×4, with the first 3 available for both tractor and rigid applications. The Quester’s high-roof Large Cab option also offers class-leading space for operator comfort.
The new Quester introduced in 2019 enhances the driving experience
Building on the established durability and reliability of the Quester, the new Quester has incorporated notable upgrades such as the ESCOT automated manual transmission, more powerful engines and intuitive telematics. These improvements were aimed at improving fuel efficiency, productivity, drivability, safety and availability.
Fuel costs typically represent 60 percent of fleet operators’ operating costs. The new Quester has achieved an even greater improvement in fuel efficiency, up to 10% over the first Quester model, by incorporating the ESCOT automated manual transmission, reducing vehicle weight and optimizing the drivetrain.[1].
The ESCOT automated manual transmission system incorporated specialized software that optimizes gear changes based on engine rpm, vehicle speed, load weight and road gradient. This clever system also featured a sensor that automatically selects the most appropriate starting gear, rather than defaulting to first gear.
The new Quester’s advanced fuel efficiency was meant to align with the global call for lower fuel consumption. The new Quester met heavy-duty fuel economy and quality requirements, ranging from Euro 3 to Euro 4, in all target markets.
The new Quester’s automatic selection of the most suitable gear was also intended to facilitate driver training and improve handling. Its easy-to-use shifter, which uses a straight shift pattern, was intended to help companies expand their driver base by making driving more intuitive and easier to learn.
The new Quester was also meant to elevate the driving experience. Designed to feature an air-suspended cab and operator comfort package that effectively reduces cab vibration by up to 18 percent, operator comfort has been further prioritized through the inclusion of ergonomic seats and a lumbar support.
Euro 5 compliant Quester embodies the value of sustainability
UD Trucks was the pioneer truck manufacturer to introduce Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology in 2004.
Continuing its efforts to promote sustainability, the Euro 5 Quester debuted in 2021 as a heavy-duty truck that would improve customers’ business operations while minimizing environmental impact as much as possible.
Euro 5 standards result in an approximately 43% reduction in NOx emissions compared to Euro 4, resulting in a substantial decrease in the vehicle’s carbon footprint through cleaner exhaust emissions.
The latest Euro 5 Quester incorporates SCR technology, offering a substantial improvement in environmental conservation and fuel efficiency. The reliability of this technology in effectively reducing NOx emissions is evident when compared to other emission control methods. The Euro 5 Quester has also revolutionized the scene with real-time fueling and driver coaching. This improvement provided truck drivers with immediate and specific feedback on more fuel-efficient driving techniques.
Leveraging technology for a smart future
The new Quester and its Euro 5 range have further enhanced the existing and impressive features of the Quester.
Since 2018, all trucks are equipped with UD Connected Services, which has the ability to establish a direct connection with UD Trucks workshops, allowing real-time monitoring and preventive identification of the status of each vehicle and the requirements of maintenance before potential emergencies. Preventive maintenance analysis offers customers guidance through monthly reports on driving habits and fuel consumption, leading to improved operational efficiency and improved fuel economy over the long term.
Quester is also proud to stay true to its “Designed to Go Further” philosophy, increasing uptime with UD Extra Mile support. Featuring an extensive network of highly trained service technicians, the company provides world-class after-sales service, including service contracts, connected services, genuine parts, service scheduling and comprehensive maintenance training. delivery of vehicles. Together, these efforts maximize the fleet’s performance in global markets.
Jacques Michel, Senior Vice President of International Sales for UD Trucks, said, “We are proud of the tremendous accomplishments Quester has made to date. UD Trucks recognizes that customer needs and the industry landscape are always dynamic and changing. We will continue to collaborate, innovate and most importantly, stay tuned to the needs of our customers to ensure that Quester stays true to its promise to “go the extra mile”.
