During his visit to Vietnam last April, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored the United States’ commitment to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in several areas, including trade and investment, science and technology, education and training as well as the response to climate change. The United States values its relationship with Vietnam and wants to take it to new heights, he said.
Vietnam and the United States, former war enemies, normalized their relations in July 1995 and upgraded their relations towards a comprehensive partnership in July 2013.
The bilateral trade turnover of the two countries reached more than $123.86 billion in 2022, an increase of 11% from 2021. The United States is also the largest export market and the second Vietnam’s trading partner.
U.S. foreign direct investment in Vietnam has reached over $11 billion, representing more than 1,200 projects, ranking it 11th among all countries and territories that directly invest in Vietnam. There are approximately 30,000 Vietnamese students studying in the United States, contributing $1 billion to the country’s economy.
