A four-kilometer coastal road will be built on Phu Quoc Island to allow visitors to access public beaches.
Kien Giang, the province that is home to the island, Vietnam’s largest and a major tourist attraction, recently approved construction of the six-lane road. on the West Coast.
It will extend between the Duong Dong River and Provincial Road 975B.
An embankment, drainage system, sidewalks and lighting system will also be constructed, and trees will be planted along the road.
Work will begin in 2024 and will last five years.
Despite Phu Quoc’s status as a tourist hotspot, there is a recognized lack of infrastructure, including coastal roads and public beaches near the center of Duong Dong town.
Most of its best beaches are inside the resort towns.
A report published on December 14 on Kien Giang’s official website said Phu Quoc attracted 5.4 million tourists this year, up 14.5 percent from the same period last year, but only 90.7% of the target figure for this year.
Among them, 521,332 foreigners, an increase of 211.3% and well above the target.
