Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,, April 23, 2025 / Prnewswire / – Oceanquest, a non -profit foundation dedicated to the deep exploration of the ocean, officially launched Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With a mission to accelerate the discovery of oceans, stimulate innovation and promote international cooperation while engaging the public, Oceanquest should considerably accelerate the deep research of the oceans and the sharing of knowledge.
The Foundation supports Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 by directing innovation in the exploration of the oceans and by making sustainable development progress. Oceanquest should contribute to the National Research, Development and Innovation Objectives (RDI) of the Kingdom Sar 3 billion in the financing of research and development by 2050 and ultimately supporting more than 150 scientists per year, while also helping Saudi Arabia efforts to protect 30% of marine habitats.
Oceanquest will direct a series of joint expeditions to study the submarines-vital submarine ecosystems essential for ocean health. These missions will provide new information on biology, chemistry, physics and geology of the deep ocean, improving global knowledge and informing conservation efforts. The Foundation will also aim to exploit a small fleet of advanced search ships equipped with advanced robotics on the high seas, allowing the exploration of previously inaccessible depths. A key element of the Oceanquest innovation program will include the creation of digital twins from Ocean submarines – real -time virtual models that provide valuable information for decision -making, shelter and sustainable use.
To direct this ambitious initiative, Oceanquest appointed Dr. Martin Visbeck as managing director. A worldwide expert in oceans, Dr. Visbeck brings more than three decades of experience in research, policy and technological innovation in ocean. Under his direction, Oceanquest will advance initiatives which accelerate exploration on the high seas, pioneer of new technologies and increase global engagement with the ocean.
