North Vietnam is expected to enter its coldest spell since the start of this year’s winter on Saturday, with average lows expected to drop to 10 degrees Celsius in the delta and below zero degrees on high mountains.
A very strong cold front is expected to hit Vietnam between Friday and Saturday, Tuoi Tre News quoted a report from the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting as saying.
As a result, the northern and north-central provinces will enter a prolonged cold spell on Saturday.
The lowest temperatures in the Red River Delta and north-central places will be 8 to 11 degrees Celsius.
The average lows drop to about three to five degrees Celsius in mountainous areas and below zero degrees on high mountains, along with a chance of frost.
The coldest time of day will be late evening and early morning.
The sun makes it warmer during the day.
The coldest days in this period fall on Sunday and Monday.

The cold wave will also result in strong winds and high waves in the Gulf of Tonkin area, the maritime area from north-central Quang Tri province to south-central Ninh Thuan province, and the maritime area of south-central province Binh Thuan to the south. Ca Mau province, Tuoi Tre News reported.
Residents are advised not to use coal stoves for heating in enclosed spaces and to protect livestock and animals from hunger and cold.
The municipalities are obliged to proactively provide information and instructions to people and tourists on slippery roads, where frost and ice can occur, to ensure road safety.
