The four key elements of development are economic assets, physical assets, network assets and digital assets. The ARI Innovation District or ARID will be developed as a new economic hub to accommodate innovative businesses, public and private sector investments, as well as global technology companies. ARID is expected to serve as an innovation sandbox in its mission to drive investment in infrastructure critical to the development of practical technologies. To support this mission, the ARID Hackathon 2023: Innovation for Well-being took place. The overall winner of the competition was PARK :D, who presented the “Parking Lot – Sharing” platform as a way to improve transport connectivity. The winning idea will be further developed and used as an innovation for ARID.

Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, reveals that BMA and NIA shared the goal of making the Thai capital a great place to live through policy formulation and implementation. To achieve this goal, it is important to use innovations not only to mitigate or solve problems, but also to leverage existing good resources to improve livability and added value. ARI is a strategic area which is being transformed into an “innovation district”. This modernization marks an important start in its journey to become more livable with better housing, convenient utilities, modernity and a city plan that well supports technology-driven businesses. ARI can rely on its ranking among the best districts in the world for its transformation into an internationally leading innovation district and for its comprehensive integration of innovations.
“Bangkok is not just a tourist or residential city. It is important to note that based on a friendly ecosystem for startups and innovations, Bangkok ranks among the best in the world. This year, Bangkok’s ranking in this regard also improves significantly. This remarkable progress highlights the fact that the Thai capital is innovative in many ways and benefits from urban growth, driven by its innovation districts and their assets. So far, many other neighborhoods may also need innovations. BMA therefore plays a role as a “facilitator through regulation, transition and integration in a way that builds confidence in the usability of innovation. Our efforts cover the development of innovation districts, which focus on impacts on people, the city, the economy and new opportunities.”
Mr. Chanwit Rattanarasri, Director of the Innovation Infrastructure Department at the NIA, says his agency has established guidelines for pursuing and disseminating innovation development at the regional, regional, municipal and district levels. The development focuses on three dimensions: the promotion and development of innovation infrastructure, the development of the innovation city and the innovative city, which include the promotion of community participation; and rapprochement and integration between relevant organizations in key dimensions. Additionally, NIA is looking to bring Deep
Tech in various fields including ARID or ARI Innovation District in Phaya Thai district of Bangkok. While housing many people, ARID is also an exceptional economic hub, supporting commercial establishments, facilitating the use of infrastructure and solving many problems in ways that promote the development of new technologies.
“NIA, in collaboration with BMA and partners from the private and public sectors as well as ARID communities, aims to increase the role of ARITech in the development of ARITech and to promote startups in this district in the hope that public services become truly inclusive. After the start of our collaboration In 2020, we found that ARID has important components. If these components are well integrated, ARID will definitely progress further. These components are:
1)
Economic advantages or ARITech-related businesses, research and startups that are scattered across this area and include world-renowned companies like IBM, Forth Corporation and AIS;
2)
Physical assets such as ARID’s city center location, convenient access to public transportation systems and mixed use of spaces;
3) Network Assets of entrepreneurs, government agencies and civic organizations who came together because of their common goal of developing ARID; And
4) Digital Assets which are available as electronic data on electronic networks, including widely used databases or platforms.
Mr. Chanwit adds that in 2023, NIA, BMA and their partners aim to make ARID a “Cognitive city”. Therefore, together they will accelerate the development or adoption of Deep Tech to strengthen ARID’s strengths and make it shine as a new economic hub for innovative companies, public and private sector investments, as well as international technology companies. Furthermore, NIA, BMA and their partners aim to strengthen the innovation ecosystem by developing ARID as an innovation sandbox where technology development infrastructure will be developed and used to solve city problems, increase the value of ARID’s physical assets and foster collaborations between the organizations concerned. In accordance with these plans, the NIA organized
ARID Hackathon 2023: Innovating for well-being promote, build and develop the sandbox where innovations will be tested. The competition focuses on the environment, connectivity and security.
