Social media platform X on Saturday reinstated the account of Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, after he was suspended nearly eight months ago because the rapper broke the platform’s rules prohibiting the incitement to violence.
Ye’s account now shows his last post from December 1, a day before his X-platform account was suspended, new name owner Elon Musk gave Twitter.
Ye will not be eligible to monetize his account on X, and ads will not appear alongside his posts, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing the social media platform.
Ye’s account was suspended in December, just two months after it was reactivated, after one of his posts appeared to show a swastika symbol inside a Star of David.
X reinstated Ye’s account after being assured that he would not use the platform to share anti-Semitic or otherwise harmful language, according to the report, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Ye hasn’t posted anything new since returning to the platform.
The social media platform did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
The billionaire owner of X, who calls himself a freedom of expression absolutist, had welcomed the rapper’s return to the platform in October, after his account was reactivated for the first time.
Musk previously reinstated former US President Donald Trump’s account after conducting a poll in which some 14.8 million Twitter users voted with 51.8% in favor of reinstatement. But Trump had said he had no interest in returning to Twitter and would stick to his new Truth Social platform.
After Ye launched a series of anti-Semitic rants in interviews and on social media, he lost his partnership with Adidas and Gap for Yeezy products.
