Phan Thuong My, 44, is accused of “intentional wounding”.
Police say My’s son, a ninth-grader, lost a calculator more than two weeks ago and accused a classmate identified only as K. of stealing it.
The boys are students at secondary school in La Ha town, Tu Nghia district.
K. told his mother about it.
She called My and his wife on the phone to tell them that her son had not stolen the calculator.
The next day, another student returned the calculator to My’s son.
K. then wanted My’s son to apologize for the false accusation, which led to arguments between them, and My became aware of this.
On December 8 around noon, he followed K., who was cycling, after school on his motorcycle, rode alongside him and started shouting at him.
In scenes filmed by a security camera, he stopped K. in the middle of a deserted street and punched him several times in the face, chest and head.
He then left the boy in the street.
Shortly after, passers-by rushed K. to the Tu Nghia District Medical Center as he was vomiting and bleeding from his nose.
He was then transferred to Quang Ngai General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an intracranial injury.
He also suffered injuries to 12 percent of his body and was undergoing treatment Tuesday.
Vo Thanh Nho, the school’s principal, said that teachers and staff at the school knew about the affair from the beginning and that after it became clear that K. had not stole the calculator, his family only wanted My’s son to apologize, but My’s family refused. .
