
According to the company, LG Electronics’ Vietnamese R&D company is in charge of software development and verification of the in-car infotainment system (IVI). Infotainment, which LG Electronics VS Headquarters focuses on, is a compound word of information and entertainment, and is valued as a key technology in the field of future mobility. It is a system that simultaneously provides various driving-related information and entertainment functions, and its main products are telematics and audio/video/navigation (AVN).
Through the establishment of this R&D company, LG Electronics plans to secure the professional workforce and further strengthen its operation. It plans to increase the number of development workforce related to electronic components at the Vietnamese R&D company, which currently has about 750, by more than 30 percent to reach 1,000 by 2024.
After establishing the Hanoi Electric R&D Center under the Vietnam Production Company in 2016, LG Electronics has continuously strengthened R&D for the electric vehicle industry in Vietnam, which is rich in excellent software experts, such as adding an R&D center branch in Da Nang in 2020. In addition, LG Electronics has been running an industry-university linkage program since 2021 to provide scholarships and secure jobs to universities in Da Nang and surrounding areas and excellent talents so promote and secure human resources. He plans to expand to a university in Hanoi this year.
With the establishment of an R&D company in Vietnam, LG Electronics not only strengthens the vehicle infotainment system of the VS division, but also promotes uniform growth in its three main businesses: ▲ vehicle lighting system of its ZKW subsidiary, and ▲ electric vehicle powertrain of LG Magna ePowertrain, a joint venture, on this basis, is a strategy to consolidate its position in the global auto parts market and lead the next era of autonomous driving.
