ISTANBUL, TURKEY – Media OutReach – October 29, 2023 – Kawakin Core-Tech (Kawaguchi, Saitama, Japan; President and CEO: Shinkichi Suzuki) has opened its Istanbul branch, the company’s first branch in Turkey. The start of its activities is scheduled for October 29, the 75th anniversary of the Kawakin Holdings Group, born from the establishment of Kawaguchi Metal Industries, and the 100th anniversary of the founding of Turkey.
Starting in 2022, the company launched joint research with Istanbul Technical University to produce an affordable and earthquake-resistant buckling restraint splint. In February 2023, during the joint research, the “Turkey-Syria earthquake” occurred. It has been suggested that one of the contributing factors to the earthquake damage was that the construction did not conform to appropriate building standards. After the earthquake, a new branch was established in Istanbul. This branch was opened to preview the buckling restraint bracing under development, as well as our seismic isolation, dampers and seismic devices.
At the opening ceremony held in Istanbul, Turkey on September 20, Chairman and CEO Suzuki said: “We would like to use our experience and technology to help protect social infrastructure and buildings of Turkey against earthquakes. Mr. Takahiko Katsuyoshi, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Turkey, said: “Kawakin Core-Tech products play an extremely important role in protecting human lives and society. We are proud that Kawakin Core-Tech is expanding its operations in this region.” This was followed by an inauguration ceremony by Chairman and CEO Suzuki, Ambassador Katsuyoshi, Professor Oğuz Cem Çelik of the Faculty of Architecture of Istanbul Technical University and Branch Manager Tolga Onal .
