A photo taken in Hung Yen helped a German contestant win the iPhone Photography Awards (IPPA) Photographer of the Year award, while a photo from Hoi An won the Still Life category.

“Soy Sauce Village”, shot in the northern province of Hung Yen with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, helped German photographer Thea Mihu win first place in the Photographer of the Year category.
The photo shows a local resident stirring giant containers of soy sauce.
Another winning photo this year was ‘Viet Memories’, taken by Indonesian photographer Robert Lie in the old town of Hoi An. The photo was taken with an iPhone 14 Pro Max and won the highest honor in the Still Life category .

The photo captures one of the iconic yellow walls in the old town adorned with the Vietnamese national flag. Other household items are also displayed in the frame, including paintings of women in ao dai, an old television, a vase with pomegranate branches, a kerosene lantern, a pot of aloe vera, and a tea set.
First held in 2007, the IPPAs are an annual competition that selects the best photos taken by iPhone from submissions from around the world. The awards recognize photographers and photographers in 16 categories.
Winners of this year’s contest came from Germany, Mexico, Bosnia and Herzegovina, USA, Australia, Sweden, China, Netherlands, Turkey, France and Indonesia .
