When Instagram launched Reels in August, everyone saw it as a direct response to TikTok – clearly the fastest growing social network right now. Both platforms provide a similar service, and the content creators saw it as a low-effort, high-reward attempt to publish a video on two different apps.
As of today, Instagram has decided to punish some of the laziest creators and influencers and announced that it will stop promoting Reels with a watermark – something that can be seen on all TikTok videos.

Instagram Reels Dos and Dont’s
In a cheerful (but actually devious) post via her Creators account, Instagram posted some tips for getting discovered through the Reels tab – a section that was introduced in November. Obviously, the platform reminds that videos must be “entertaining and fun”, “inspiring” and obviously shot vertically.
What Instagram doesn’t want is for users to post low-res blurry videos, short clips recycled from other platforms, and those with a border around them. Although they are not promoted through Reels, they will still be available in the Profile tab and appear in the subscriber feed. These social media hosts should stick with music from the Instagram music library or original audio found on Reels.
