VinFast electric automobile and motorcycle manufacturing complex in Hai Phong and got a first-hand look at the Vietnamese brand’s high-end electric vehicles. Previously, in Hanoi, President Widodo and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with partner companies from the two countries, including VinFast and GSM.


Vingroup Chairman and CEO of VinFast Global, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, himself took the wheel of an electric buggy, guiding President Widodo on a close-up tour of the state-of-the-art VinFast complex.
After visiting the complex and learning about VinFast’s range of electric vehicles, Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed his pleasure in touring the facility and was impressed by the quality and class of VinFast’s vehicles. The president said he would create all necessary conditions for VinFast to quickly complete investment procedures for production and business in the Indonesian market.
As previously announced, VinFast plans to invest at least $1.2 billion in Indonesia in the long term. Along with distributing vehicles imported from Vietnam to Indonesian customers in the initial phase, VinFast will invest $200 million to establish an electric vehicle manufacturing plant with a projected production capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 vehicles per year in Indonesia.


In the morning of the same day, in Hanoi, President Widodo and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with companies investing and operating in the two countries. VinFast and GSM reported to the leaders of the two countries on the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GoTo, Indonesia’s leading technology company, owner of the transportation service platform Gojek.
In a statement issued on behalf of Gojek, VinFast and GSM said: “Gojek has signed a memorandum of understanding with VinFast and GSM, which aims to promote green transportation through the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia. Our companies will work together to promote the use of electric vehicles. among four-wheeler drivers on the Gojek platform, with the ultimate aim of providing a superior experience with VinFast’s eco-friendly electric four-wheelers.
By signing a memorandum of understanding with GoTo, VinFast and GSM demonstrate their commitment to supporting the Indonesian government’s ambitious goal of reducing transport emissions. This agreement opens up cooperation opportunities and marks an important step for VinFast and GSM in their expansion into the global market in 2024.
GSM, founded by Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup, is a pioneer in sustainable rental and taxi services using exclusively VinFast electric cars and scooters. Apart from the MoU, GSM also announced plans to invest up to $900 million in Indonesia in the near future.
