Seeking HK$5 million in donations to help the Bring the Kids Home campaign and other impactful programs for children with special needs
HONG KONG, October 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Society for the Relief of Disabled Children (SRDC), one of Hong Kong’s oldest NGOs dedicated to supporting children with disabilities, proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Since its founding in 1955, SRSA has become at the forefront of providing life-changing care, research, advocacy and resources to children with disabilities and their families.
To mark this momentous occasion, SRSA is organizing a series of celebratory events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including “SRSA – Pioneers for 70 years – Impact Stories Exhibition at Pacific Place, Admiralty from today until October 26, 2025. Dr. Cecilia Fan Yuen-man, Undersecretary for Health of the HKSAR, presided over the opening ceremony, with honorable guests including Mr. FAN Hung Ling, Henry, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKSAR Hospital Authority, and other renowned doctors.
Upcoming milestone events include the annual Sandy Bay Hospital Charity Bazaar on 15th November 2025 and the famous SRDC Christmas Parade and Santa’s Christmas Lunch on December 25, 2025 for the children of the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital.

Several Ventilator-assisted children at Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital are ready to go home and need additional home care support. Through this initiative, we will support these families by providing in-home care and creating strong support networks, ensuring that when children are ready to return home, they can safely enjoy a fulfilling family life and comforting reunions.

Looking to the future
As SRSA reflects on its legacy, it also looks to the future with a renewed emphasis on innovation and inclusiveness. The organization plans to expand its programs, harness new technologies in rehabilitation, and advocate for research and policies that promote equal opportunities for children with disabilities in Hong Kong.

Donations from the Sandy Bay Hospital Fair raise funds to improve medical equipment at the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital, ensuring the organization can continue its vital mission for years to come.

A legacy of impact
Over the past seven decades, SRSA has worked tirelessly to advance the medical care, rehabilitation and inclusion of children with disabilities. Some of the key milestones of the NGO include:
- 1955 – SRDC established and operated Hong Kong’s first convalescent home for disabled children, which became the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital. Sandy Bay, Pokfulam (official opening of DKCH in 1968). Collaborate with healthcare professionals and global organizations to bring cutting-edge treatments for tuberculosis, polio and spinal deformities to Hong Kong. The SRDC managed and operated the DKCH until 1991, when it handed over administration and operation to the HK Hospital Authority.
- 1992 – SRDC continues to support DKCH and expands its scope of impact, including medical intervention projects (beyond public system coverage), research, training and professional development, advocacy and community engagement.
- 1995 – SRDC brought the Kids on the Block puppet troupe to Hong Kong (with project partner HKSR) and launched inclusive message puppet shows for Hong Kong primary school children. SRDC’s KOB program uses puppets as a way to address topics such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Epilepsy in schools and promotes inclusion and support through these vivid stories. Since 1995, SRDC KOB has served more than 550,000 children in Hong Kong.
- 2009 – SRDC launched its Chinese Patient Program to provide specialized medical treatment to underprivileged children in China whose families cannot afford the treatment. The children receive professional medical care in Hong Kong and return home significantly improved.
- 2014 – SRSA funds numerous research projects and clinical trials. A good example of this is SRDC’s seed funding for Professor Lau Yu Lung, HKUMed,’s research on neonatal screening for severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), which boosts early detection and treatment. With seed funding from SRSA to pilot the initial research, the results have led the Hong Kong government to now ensure that all newborns are tested for SCID.
- 2024 – SRDC launched a new collaboration with HKU Hospital in Shenzhen to support children with special needs.
- 2025 – New SRSA 5-year impact programs will be announced soon!
