HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – January 25, 2024 – The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) recently launched its Innovation Mixer Tour on the West Coast of the United States to connect the innovation communities of the United States and of Hong Kong and showcase the booming opportunities in Asia. From January 16 to 19, the HKSTP delegation organized a series of events, including visits to prestigious academic institutions at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) to explore potential collaborations in terms of incubation, internship and talent programs. The delegation met with more than 40 market-leading technology companies, venture capitalists, accelerators, academics and R&D leaders, while more than 250 young entrepreneurs, innovators and talents came to hear about the growing ecosystem of Innovation and Technology (I&T) of Hong Kong.
HKSTP met with representatives from the US technology sector, including Silicon Valley leader Google, Israeli accelerator UPWEST LABS and life sciences company APstem THERAPEUTICS, during its US Innovation Mixer tour.


The enormous interest from attendees led to lively conversations regarding cooperation with HKSTP and potential expansion to Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. Hong Kong’s status is on the rise as it rose to 9th at the UN
Global Border Technology Readiness Index in 2023. While the last
Global Innovation Index says the Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou science and technology hub is now ranked number two in the world, proving that Hong Kong is at the center of a growing innovation powerhouse in China and Asia.

During visits to Stanford University, America’s leading institution for technology talent, the leadership team met with the Department of Management Sciences and Engineering, the School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Business to explore partnerships on talent initiatives. HKSTP hosted a careers session that highlighted the exciting I&T career paths in Hong Kong, while HKSTP CEO Albert Wong presented the internship and graduate opportunities offered by HKSTP to more of 50 Stanford students from different faculties.
To engage the Business Association of Stanford Entrepreneurial Students (BASES) with highly influential alumni and innovative students, a networking session was held where Albert described the career path and differences within Multinational Corporations (MNCs). ) operating in the United States, Asia Pacific and China. . By comparing leadership roles in multinationals with entrepreneurial management experiences, participants were inspired to venture into Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem, unlocking the enormous potential of global investors and talents through this gateway important entry point to China and Asian markets.
Talent development collaborations with UC Berkeley have reached new heights. The HKSTP delegation met with the university’s Director of International Partnerships, Dr Matthew Sherburne, to explore opportunities for start-up partnerships and internship programs. The team visited UC Berkeley’s Mechanical Systems Control Lab, supervised by Professor Masayoshi Tomizuka, who is also co-director of the Hong Kong Logistics Robotics Center, InnoHK. The research team showed immense interest in funding and supporting R&D in Hong Kong.
The West Coast tour also included meetings with world technology leaders NVIDIA, Google, Linkedin; American venture capital firms such as TSVC; Silicon Valley-based innovation and entrepreneurship platforms such as JJ Lake and Q Bay Center; The Israeli accelerator UPWEST LABS, among others, with in-depth discussions to explore and deepen cooperations. The delegation engaged with companies in the life sciences, AI, fintech and cybersecurity sectors who expressed keen interest in expanding into Asia.
Additionally, HKSTP and the
Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) hosted a reception dinner which attracted approximately 150 technology professionals from major companies, universities and venture capital firms, including Apple, Google, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, JP Morgan and East West Bank. Participants were briefed on the increasing investment and resources in Hong Kong’s thriving I&T sector.
“HKSTP Innovation Mixer” was launched in 2023 as an outreach program to connect with businesses and talents around the world to grow Hong Kong and Asia’s collective innovation ecosystems. HKSTP demonstrated its integrated ecosystem of infrastructure, R&D, consulting, financing, partner matching and market development services, which helps technology companies at all stages of their innovation journey. HKSTP delegations visited Singapore and Malaysia last year and ended their tour in the United States in January this year.
