Columbia Asia Hospital in HCMC will suspend operations from January 31 and divest all assets due to expiration of operating licenses.
A representative of Columbia Asia Gia Dinh International Hospital, the city’s first 100% foreign-owned private facility, said the hospital’s operating life was coming to an end, along with that of Columbia Asia International General Clinic. According to the license, the company must transfer all its fixed assets in Vietnam, without compensation, once the operating period has expired.
“This is why the company cannot extend its operating license,” the hospital said. Customers can contact the hospital via email to resolve any relevant issues, starting February 1, it adds.
The company also sent documents to the Ministry of Health and the HCMC Health Department to report the matter and return the business license.
HCMC should continue to use the site for health and diagnostic purposes.
The hospital was the first private hospital with 100% foreign capital approved for operation in Vietnam. It has been present in the country for 25 years.
The main clientele of Columbia Asia Saigon International General Clinic, located in District 1, is the expat community of the southern metropolis.
Columbia Asia operates under the umbrella of International Columbia US, LLC (ICU) and Seattle-based Columbia Pacific Management, managing 29 hospitals and two clinics in India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia and Vietnam.
The company has capital from American and Malaysian investors.
