A foreigner of Vietnamese origin has died following a botched facelift procedure at the Japan-Korea Beauty Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
A report released Saturday by HCMC Health Ministry inspectors said the 70-year-old woman came to the facility for a facelift, and the procedure was performed on March 13.
The patient then showed signs of delirium and her breathing stopped. Doctors attempted to treat her case by injecting her with 11 vials of adrenaline and defibrillating her. When her heartbeat resumed, she was transferred to the 175 Military Hospital in a deep coma.
A representative of the 175 Military Hospital said the patient died on Friday despite all the efforts of doctors.
“During the operation, there were medical problems that exceeded the hospital’s treatment capabilities,” the Japan-Korea Beauty Hospital said in a report. The cause of the patient’s condition has not been confirmed.
Many fatal incidents related to cosmetic procedures were reported in HCMC last year.
Recently, a 59-year-old woman also died after a facelift operation at a beauty hospital in HCMC. The cause of his death was later determined to be shock related to the anesthesia used during the procedure.
Earlier this year, a 26-year-old woman also died after several procedures, including breast implants and wisdom teeth extraction, at the city’s Van Hanh General Hospital.
In June last year, a 27-year-old woman died after a breast augmentation procedure at a District 10 hotel.
Two months earlier, a 45-year-old Taiwanese woman died following cosmetic surgery at Korean Star Hospital.
