Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have met an agreement to fight at the event UFC. 257 on Jan. 23rd. It is the second time they fight each other.
According to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin, Conor McGregor will go one on one with Dustin Poirier again after reaching the agreement this Tuesday. Theoretically, the Irish fighter-McGregor will have a year without fighting. His last fighting inside the Octagon was in UFC. 246 when McGregor beat Donald Cerrone via first-round TKO. The Irish fighter was an undisputed champion of the Welterweight cast and Lightweight as well.
Nonetheless, after losing against Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Irish fighter form declined dramatically.
McGregor will participate in the UFC. 257 event for the No. 1 Contender’s bout of the Lightweight Championship. Nurmagomedov immediately declared his retirement after beating Justin Gaethje in October. The Russian fighter remained his champion status at this time, but the future of the Lightweight belt is vacant. Whoever wins in the fight between McGregor and Poirier will officially claim the right to fight for the championship.

In December, McGregor and Poirier will have another match to fight for. Two fighters will join in a charity fight in Dublin, Ireland. In the past, Poirier and McGregor have been through a clash. The Irish fighter beat his opponent via TKO back in September 2014 in UFC 178 event. Currently, Poirier and McGregor are the Nos. 2- and 4-ranked fighters, respectively, in the division. Their status allows two fighters to have a chance to become the next Lightweight champion of UFC.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has left the company with a huge legacy and a prestigious prize to fight for. Opportunity for Poirier and McGregor is equal, and hopefully, we will observe a wonderful clash of them this upcoming Jan. 23rd, 2021. Hope to see an entertaining showcase of mixed martial arts!
