Research reveals serious vulnerabilities on several devices from two main suppliers of smart homes, highlighting the urgent need for IoT and stronger security standards.
Alpbach, Austria,, September 14, 2025 / Prnewswire / – AV -comparatives were nominated for the prestigious Euregio Innovation Award At European Alpbach forum (EFA). The appointment recognizes the pioneering research of IoT by AV combinations and the development of an automated test system for the certification of Smart Home and IoT devices as well as infrastructures of city and smart grids.

Intelligent house devices such as connected cameras, voice assistants, lighting systems and thermostats are increasingly common in households. Although they bring convenience, they also present risks if security is not properly implemented. Uncounted devices can be used by cybercriminals to obtain unauthorized access, steal sensitive information or even take control of household systems. Vulnerable IoT devices can also be diverted and used in large -scale botnet attacks, not only threatening individual users but also critical infrastructure.
In collaboration with MCI | Entrepreneurial school®AV-Comparative has developed an advanced and automated system to test and certify IoT devices. This innovative platform assesses how devices protect user data and resist cyber attacks. During research, the team discovered serious vulnerabilities in the devices of two large suppliers of smart homes – highlighting the urgent need for stronger standards and independent certification. The results of complete research will be published later this year.
“Our appointment for the Euregio Innovation price is a high validation of our mission: ensuring that connected technologies are tested according to the highest standards”, “ said Jan Bronke, COO of AV compressions. “Intelligent house devices that are part of daily life, the risk of poorly safety are no longer theoretical. Our new IoT test system helps protect consumers while offering manufacturers a clear route to provide safer and more reliable products.”
“The collaboration between MCI and AV-comparatives shows how applied research and the expertise of the industry can meet to resolve pressing societal challenges”, “ added Pascal Schöttle, MCI. “With billions of IoT devices entering households and businesses around the world, tests and rigorous certification are essential to protect users and infrastructure.”
The Euregio Innovation Award is awarded each year to the European Alpbach forum to honor revolutionary projects that combine research excellence, cross -border collaboration and societal impact.
