HONG KONG, October 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) is showcasing six revolutionary technologies and smart solutions at this year’s show. InnoCarnival. Covering artificial intelligence (AI), smart mobility, medtech, contech and smart manufacturing, these innovations allow visitors to experience the transformative power of technology first-hand.
Organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission, InnoCarnival officially opened today at the Hong Kong Science Park and will run until October 26. Under the theme “I&T unleashes your dream“, the event aims to promote the culture of innovation and technology (I&T) among the public.
Mr. Dr. Ted SuenDirector General of ASTRI, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting the HKSAR government in promoting science popularization. He highlighted that such initiatives lay the foundation for robust growth of local I&T. “ASTRI remains focused on developing practical and impactful technologies that bring real benefits to society and drive efficiency across all sectors,” said Ir Dr Suen. “We are proud to present our research achievements to the public at this annual event.”
He described InnoCarnival as a flagship event that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, expressing hope that it will inspire more young people to pursue careers in innovation and technology, helping them unlock their potential and realize their ambitions.
At the ASTRI booth, visitors can participate in interactive demonstrations of digital technologies, enjoy generative AI games, and explore the institute’s cutting-edge innovations, including a dedicated system-on-chip for capsule endoscopy, an automated high-volume diamond color grading instrument, technologies related to drones and low-altitude economics, as well as the Precision intelligent optical positioning designed for integrated modular construction (MiC).

Wireless System-on-Chip (SoC) for Capsule Endoscopy
ASTRI’s award-winning capsule endoscopy system-on-chip, which delivers ultra-high-speed transmission capabilities more than seven times faster than traditional versiondelivering significantly clearer image quality and significantly improved diagnostic accuracy. The chip is also 42% smaller than traditional designs, establishing its unique advantages in the field of capsule endoscopy and allowing patients to undergo more comfortable examinations without anesthesia while reducing the risk of infection.

Automated diamond color grading
This high-precision automated diamond color grading machine uses internal reference standards to eliminate environmental and human errors, achieving an accuracy of ±0.5. This innovative technology enables continuous assessment of diamond color on production lines, simplifies workflows and corrects the inefficiencies of traditional grading methods, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

Drone technology for urban parcel delivery
ASTRI’s drone solution optimizes lightweight package delivery in urban areas, leveraging advanced positioning systems including GNSS-RTK, inertial navigation algorithms and roadside units (RSU). Its precise navigation ensures reliable operation even in environments with obstructed signals, making it ideal for emergency medical deliveries. By bypassing city traffic, the system significantly improves delivery speed and reliability compared to conventional methods.

Smart positioning for MiC construction
ASTRI’s intelligent optical precision positioning system solves key challenges in integrated modular construction (MiC). Using non-visible light communication (nVLC), edge computing and event detection, it tracks pose changes in six degrees of freedom in real time. Features such as trajectory prediction, operational assistance and comprehensive lift records improve build quality, improve decision-making and advance MiC component positioning technology.

Fraud detection and awareness game
Fraudsters are using advanced generative AI tools, such as realistic voice cloning and deepfake technologies, making it increasingly difficult for victims to distinguish between real and fake. ASTRI’s AI fraud detection system uses media analytics, computer vision and natural language processing to provide real-time risk alerts and fraud prevention solutions for industries like finance and insurance. On the stand, an interactive AI mini-game allows visitors to test their ability to identify authentic versus AI-generated images, helping to raise awareness of the risks of fraud in the digital age.
