According to Bloomberg sources, Apple is working on a new MagSafe accessory for the iPhone 12. A magnetically attached battery would allow iPhone users to easily stack a battery to recharge the battery. The great thing about MagSafe is that the magnets would easily line up the charger with the back of the phone.
With the iPhone 12, Apple brought back the name MagSafe for use on a new ecosystem of iPhone accessories, from wireless chargers to cases and wallets held by magnets on an iPhone. All four variants of the iPhone 12 support MagSafe.
According to the source, Battery Prototypes: “Battery prototypes have a white rubber exterior.” In any case, Apple has not yet made this accessory public. One wonders if this will be the same material that Apple used on the official Apple charging cases. There’s no word on how to recharge the battery, but a pack that could be thrown on a MagSafe charger that simultaneously powers the phone seems like a cute idea.

There are reports that charging pack testing has revealed issues during internal testing. While the magnets are strong enough to support their own weight on the iPhone, charger software issues are what can cause delays or even the ultimate scrapping of the idea. The source reported that the iPhone was incorrectly triggering a warning that the pack was overheating. Another issue was using the pack to charge an iPhone interchangeably, with or without a case.
Apple faced challenges with the AirPower charging mat announced in 2017 that never hit the market. He eventually canceled the product due to overheating of the charging coils as both large and small size coils were required for an Apple Watch to charge.
We have no doubt that Apple can make this product a possibility. The problem here is with the pack’s ability to provide fast enough charging without overheating in common scenarios such as charging in a pocket.
