Tokyo and Osaka as demand increases differentiated consulting services
TOKYO and OSAKA, Japan, October 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Global leader in professional services Alvarez and Martal (“A&M”) announces its official presence in Japan with new offices in Tokyo and Osaka and the hiring of 14 professionals, including six general managers and eight support staff, all from the largest competing companies in the market. A&M’s expansion into Japan (“A&M Japan”) supports the Company’s continued establishment of service points in Asian financial centers and reflects the growing need and resulting opportunity for challenger advisory firms to offer diversified services in the Japanese market.
Building on its heritage of more than 40 years of best-in-class operational, restructuring and advisory services, A&M Japan opens with M&A transaction professionals who bring deep local and cross-border financial, accounting, tax and corporate finance expertise to Japan. This team forms the basis of A&M Japan and will be expanded with additional professionals to meet the needs of the restructuring and operational performance improvement markets.
Joining A&M Japan in its opening phase means Daisaku Nonakageneral manager and Japanese leader for A&M’s Global Transactions Advisory Group (“Global TAG”), based in Tokyo. Most recently a partner at Deloitte Japan and head of its private equity unit, Mr. Nonaka brings two decades of transactional experience advising private equity and strategic buyers in the Japanese market. Mr. Nonaka will spearhead the expansion of Global TAG’s range of services in the country and A&M Japan’s collaboration in cross-border transactions in the company’s Asia Pacific region and other preferred markets. Alongside Mr. Nonaka in Tokyo, he is general manager Teppei Matsudaalso previously partnered with Deloitte Japan, with additional support staff based in Tokyo and Osaka joining A&M from previous roles at Deloitte Japan and PwC Japan, respectively.
As the Japanese trade corridor evolves and expands, both for local multinationals and global businesses, the need for tax advice continues to grow. To help meet this demand, the Managing Director is joining the leadership of A&M’s tax practice in the country. Ichirou Sutoformer partner of EY Japan and recognized authority in the field with over 30 years of experience in international tax consulting with a specialization in financial services. Based in Tokyo, Mr. Suto will lead a team of local tax experts, joining a growing network of A&M tax professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. Construction in the country will also be supported by fellow CEO Yoshiaki Unoalso formerly of EY Japan, and Managing Director Koichi Hattoriformer partner at Deloitte Japan, who will also serve as Head of Transaction Tax Services for A&M Japan.
Finally, in unison, market leader Takeshi Kon joins A&M Japan as Managing Director of its Corporate Finance practice; Previously at Deloitte Japan, Mr. Kon is a 25-year veteran at Nomura Securities, with other previous roles held at EY Japan and IR Japan.
Collectively, this founding group will extend A&M’s global business model and integrated platform to the Japanese market, focusing on the company’s service priorities of delivering leadership, action and results to clients.
