SINGAPORE –
Media OutReach Newswire – January 28, 2024 – In a show of unity and support for the Agency for Integrated Care’s (AIC) “Breaking the Silver Ceiling” campaign, more than 700 participants gathered along the scenic waterfront sea from Punggol at 7 a.m. this morning, to take part in a five-kilometer walk. . This walk is in collaboration with the Walking Interest Group 老朋友趴趴走 (PPZ) led by Cultural Medallion recipient Jack Neo (梁志强), an advocate of the campaign.
In a bid to redefine the perception of old age, the AIC has launched a campaign to challenge the way aging is perceived in Singapore by showcasing the capabilities of seniors. The campaign aims to encourage older and younger people to take proactive steps towards a fulfilling and meaningful life by pursuing their passions and desires, regardless of their age.
Featured in the “Boomer is OK” campaign video, Jack Neo, 64, participated in a grueling 24-kilometer marathon relay and calls on viewers to be more active by “享受流汗” (enjoy sweating). Completing the marathon is a testament to his mantra that “exercise for health is important and essential to staying active and happy, especially when you are older.”
Ms. Jenny Elgina Song (宋翠微), 61, “I found out about this walk on Facebook and that’s how I stay in touch with my friends and the community. After a knee injury, I had to stop walking Muay Thai, so I do strength training with my upper body. Taking such walks is also great for staying active and healthy!”
Mdm Mary Ng (黄玛丽), 62, “Having participated in the PPZ march for a year and a half, I think today’s march, organized in collaboration with the AIC, was meaningful. I like to stay active and this was a fun activity for my Sunday morning.
After the walk, participants were treated to an engaging post-event meeting, where they had the opportunity to meet and interact with Jack Neo and other artists such as Terence Cao, Ma Yi Duo and Simonboy. During the on-stage activities, they shared about the importance of not letting age be a limit to what one wishes to pursue. Five seniors also participated in AIC’s ongoing TikTok Challenge, where they attempted to break records set by seniors.
Mr Tan Kwang Cheak (陈光杰), Chief Executive Officer of the AIC, shared: “We are encouraged by the massive turnout on Sunday. We are pleased that our campaign is resonating with older and younger people, and we thank them for their support. This march is also a demonstration of the community’s commitment to fighting ageist stereotypes and sending the message that older people have always got it! This shows strong support for our call to foster inclusion and celebrate the dynamism of individuals at every stage. of life.”
