What is E Shram Card?
An eShram Card will be issued to workers who successfully register for the e-Shram Portal. On that card, there will be a 12-digit UAN number. Self-registered workers who use the e-Shram portal do not need to apply individually for any other government social welfare program.

How to register for E-Shram Card Online
Step 1: Visit website register.eshram.gov.in
Step 2: Click on “Register on e-SHRAM” link given on the right side of the page.
Step 3: In Self registration page, enter Aadhaar linked mobile number, Captcha
Step 4: Click on the option “Send OTP”
Step 5: Enter the OTP, the registration form for e-Shram will open

1. Who are unorganized worker?
According to FAQ, Any worker who is a home-based worker, self-employed worker or a wage worker working in the unorganized sector and not a member of ESIC or EPFO, is called an unorganized worker.
Unorganised sector comprises of establishment/ units which are engaged in the production/ sale of goods/ services and employs less than 10 workers. These units are not covered under ESIC & EPFO.
2. Are there any eligibility criteria to register on e-Shram portal?
Any worker who is unorganized and aged between 16-59, is eligible to register on the e-Shram portal.
3. What is the benefit an unorganized worker will get when he/she registers on e-Shram portal?
As per FAQ, Central Government has developed e-Shram portal which will be a centralized database of unorganized workers seeded with Aadhaar. After registering, he/she will get an Accidental Insurance cover of 2 Lacs under PMSBY. In future, all the social security benefits of unorganized workers will be delivered through this portal. In emergency and national pandemic like situations, this database may be utilized to provide necessary assistance to the eligible unorganized workers.
4. Does the worker have to renew the UAN card?
There is no need to renew the eSHRAM card to the workers to regularly update their details, mobile number, current address etc. In order to keep his account active, he/she is required to update his account at least once in a year.
5. What are the details workers can update in e-Sharam?
Once registered, a worker may update his particular details such as mobile number, current address, occupation, educational qualification, skill types, family details etc. through visiting on e-Shram portals or nearest CSC’s. 6. Select the matching occupation which worker is currently doing?
At the time of registration worker’s need to select occupation. It will be based on two level selection – At first level worker needs to select Sector (Agriculture, Automobiles, Construction, etc.), which is broad based category of activities. At second level worker is required to select his activity in the form of occupation which worker is currently doing. The activity which is source of his major income is primary activity/occupation. Any other activity which is a minor but significant source of income is called secondary occupation.
7. What is PM Suraksha Bima Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana is an Accidental Insurance scheme of Government of India eligible to the people between 18- 70 years of age group. It provides benefit of Rs. 2 Lacs at the time of accidental death and permanent disability & Rs. 1 Lac in case of partial disability.
8. How PMSBY is associated with e-Shram?
The registered workers under e-Shram portal, will be enrolled under PMSBY and premium for the first year will be borne by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
9. What if after registration in e-Shram the unorganized worker moves to organized sector?
He/she will only get the benefit defined for organized workers, as applicable to him/her.
10. How will premium for the PMSBY for the first year be deducted from beneficiaries Bank?
It is free of cost to the workers for the first year. Hence, no premium will be deducted from the beneficiary’s account.
11. Is the second-year premium for the PMSBY will be paid by the beneficiary?
Yes. In lieu of Rs.12 per year, workers will get coverage for Rs.2 lakh for accidental death/ permanent disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability.
12. Who pays the premium for PMSBY for the second year?
The beneficiary who wishes to continue beyond the first year will provide their consent to continue the scheme and allow auto-debit before each successive insurance cycle year. i.e. 1 Jun to May 31st for every successive year.
13. Are there any financial/monetary/ cash benefits after registration on e-Shram portal?
Right now, only registration is being done through e-Shram. The registered workers will be provided accidental insurance cover of Rs. 2 lacs for a year. This data may be utilized to provide financial assistance to the eligible workers during national crisis – COVID19 like situation.
14. What procedure needs to be followed in case of the death of the worker?
Claimant should file a claim along with relevant documents on the e-Shram portal/ nearest CSCs.
15 Can individuals who leave the scheme rejoin?
The insurance cycle works from 1st June to 31st May of the calendar year. All the workers are required to renew between 1st June to 30th June in the same calendar year to continue the insurance cover.
