introduction
It’s been a tough year for the whole world, and fancy gadgets aren’t something you buy in a time of crisis. IPhone production hasn’t been affected as much by the pandemic, and we saw the first generation iPhone 12 again last October. It was interesting, of course, but also very conservative and … unoriginal if you will. But it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen big leaps in technology, so a new design and 5G connectivity will have to do the trick.
The iPhone 12 is yet another glass phone with an OLED display, a few cameras, and some fast hardware. In fact, the 1080p OLED display is probably the most attractive feature of the iPhone 12 (and 12 mini), a very welcome upgrade from the 720p LCD display of the iPhone 11.
But when a company can’t offer noticeable improvements over the previous generation and knows it very well, what happens? Well, a redesign, sure, and if it’s done right – voila – we have a winner.
First of all, we would like to thank Apple for not naming its latest phones iPhone 12 5G, iPhone 12 mini 5G, etc. We understand why manufacturers want to insist on 5G capability, but hey, that’s not the big deal that companies are trying to do, not yet anyway.
Well, while this is not a giant technological leap, and despite the ongoing pandemic, the iPhone 12 series has received a very warm welcome. The new iPhone 12, in particular, had been out of stock for quite some time, and there’s a good reason for that – it has most of the new 12-series features at a reasonable price. It has the new OLED, a good choice of cameras, a flagship chipset, the nostalgic new design, and, well, 5G.
Unfortunately, we saw a big reduction in the retail package – the charger and headphones are gone. And if you thought it wouldn’t catch on in the Android market, Samsung and Xiaomi – its biggest players – are already doing the same things.
So it had been four months since this reviewer replaced their iPhone 11 Pro Max with the iPhone 12, and now we can ask ourselves if the generation leap was worth it and if we made the right purchase by choosing this particular model. Yeah or Nan? This is the iPhone 12’s long-term review.
