Police are investigating whether the man who attacked and injured six people with a knife on Monday in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City was on drugs.
Danh Giau, 23, and his older brother were delivering ice cream to restaurants and cafes near Ban Co market in District 3 when he suddenly took off his clothes, ran towards a cart selling ice coconut water on the sidewalk, grabbed the machete used to shred the ice. and I threw it, shouting loudly.
Then he rushed to a cafe on Nguyen Thien Thuat Street and started slashing the gun. The twenty or so customers of the store fled, throwing tables and chairs at him in an attempt to stop him.
He then turned around, ran out of the store and stabbed a man in the chest who was walking down the street.
He ran back to the market screaming and rushed to another cafe to drink water.
Thanh, 60, who sells lottery tickets in the market, saw Giau arriving and he and his 44-year-old son tried to run away. But the son tripped and fell, and Giau stabbed him in the head and one arm.
He continued running to the intersection of Nguyen Thien Thuat and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets and stabbed the security guard of a dental office.
In half an hour, he attacked six people in the street.
Then he stopped on Ban Co Street, slit his neck and died instantly.
Among the six victims, a 65-year-old man suffered the most serious injuries and is under treatment at the 115 People’s Hospital and on a ventilator.
Police said Giau may have been drugged and hallucinating.
They are investigating this horrific attack.
Giau was from Hau Giang province in the Mekong Delta and worked with his brother at an ice factory in Thu Duc town.
