PSG is reported to have a plan for signing Barcelona star – Lionel Messi – in summer. ESPN’s Julien Laurens announced the news on Friday that PSG had interest in Messi and wanted to sign with the Argentine striker.

In the previous summer, PSG also tried to get the signing of Lionel Messi, but the Argentine striker ultimately decided to stay with Barcelona. Besides the French club, Manchester City also looked forward to having a bargain with Barcelona, but in the end, the striker stayed with the Spanish side. However, PSG said that they could possibly come back in the summer of 2021.

Actually, Messi said that he opened for any offers since the summer of 2020, but Barcelona did not let their star leave that easy. Messi could be a free agent in the summer of 2020, but in order to do so, he needed to inform his move before June. 10th. Messi did not confirm his leaving before the decisive day, and Barca stated that the only way Messi could leave would be terminating the release clause which worth €700 million.

“And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club,” Messi said on Goal. “Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700 million clause, and that this is impossible.”

Nonetheless, Barca will no longer have the privilege to hold Messi back with the release clause in the next summer transfer. Bargains between Messi and Barca still continue on, but a potential move is also being considered since Barca has been suffering bad from the financial crisis.

“What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch,” Neymar told ESPN. “He can play in my place, I have no problem with that! But I want to play with him next year, for sure. We have to do it next season.”

Messi’s contract with Barcelona will officially expire in June, 2021. The Argentine player is free to have bargain with any clubs in January of 2021. PSG will possibly take the privilege, but the club will also face some challenges. Even though Messi is 33-year-old, he remains to be one of the best players in the world.
